Stupid fun
  • Joanna Krupa's Dancing with the Stars Blog, Vol. 6

    Hi guys!

I can't tell you how excited I am to have made it through another double elimination and on to week nine of the show. I can't believe it!

This week Derek and I danced the rumba. Derek was concerned about my fiance’s reaction to the rehearsal video showing our attempts at getting into romantic character. Of course he had nothing to worry about – this is my job, after all – but I thought it was very classy of him to end the dance with the dip in front of my fiance and shake hands.

    Joanna Krupa Dancing

Everyone is so relieved that double eliminations are over, but really, every Tuesday is daunting. I was so nervous for Mark and Aaron when they did the dance off to stay in the competition. It's disappointing to be voted off, but it's a completely different when you have a 30-second make or break dance off. I'm glad Derek and I didn't need to dance the salsa we prepared for an elimination dance off. Even with a stressful elimination episode, I was excited to see Mark and Derek perform in their band Ballas Hough. They did a fantastic job! I bet you fans out there didn't know they can sing, too.

Kelly and I were talking about how surprised and honored we are to have made it this far. When the show first started I was hoping to at least make it to week three. Plus, there's seems to be a curse that causes models to always get booted first. Derek also thought there might not be any hope for me – he bet I'd be off the show by week two. I proved us wrong, and I'm glad because this whole experience has taught me that you can succeed at whatever you’re dedicated to.

Next week we're doing a quick step and a paso doble. Each couple got an era for their paso doble and ours is futuristic. I'm really interested to see what Derek comes up with. I bet it'll be very robotic, which is different than anything else we’ve done. What I'm really wondering is how the judges will score us on a futuristic dance when they can't see the future.

Well, now that there are only five couples left the pressure is really on! I want to do well and not disappoint the audience. Now it’s time for futuristic rehearsal with Derek. Wish me luck – I’ll need it!

  • 10 Things That WON'T Happen in the "Mad Men" Season Finale

Details on Sunday's Season 3 finale of Mad Men are locked down tighter than Harry Crane's bow tie. The teaser at the end of last Sunday's JFK-heavy penultimate episode contained no new footage, and the episode won't even be screened for critics in advance of its airing. Will the Drapers' marriage dissolve? Will Pete and Peggy join Duck at Grey? Will Roger say something obnoxious, yet witty and charming? The last one is possible, but beyond that we can only guess. What we do know, however, is that none of the following have any chance of happening. Hey, in an uncertain world, we'll take any certainty we can.

    1. Guy Mackendrick will return to Sterling Cooper in order to streamline the workforce even further in advance of PPL selling it. He will immediately get his other foot run over by a riding mower. The weird thing is, this time…no one will be driving it.

    2. In a last-minute attempt to save Sterling Cooper from dissolution, Don Draper will dig deep and create his most successful ad campaign of all time. The episode will close with Don going over the storyboards for the ad with Peggy, saying, "Let's make the breasts bigger on these two when the guy sings, '…and twins!'"

    3. Betty Draper's plans to run away with Henry Francis are nixed when the real Don Draper mysteriously returns from the dead. Betty will ultimately decide that it's a bigger "eff you" to Don to marry Zombie Don than Henry.

    4. Pete and Trudy Campbell will take part in another delightful dance number. We figure there's absolutely no way that the writers can contrive to get them to repeat their triumphant Charleston performance from "My Old Kentucky Home." But mostly, we're just putting this on the list of things that won't happen in order to tempt fate. Prove us wrong, Matt Weiner. Prove us wrong.

    5. Don will join his family for a long, tense meal of onion rings at a local diner. The scene will end suddenly, leaving many to believe that the implication is that someone came out of the bathroom and shot Don, or possibly came out of the bathroom and fired him. The scene will be scored to Journey's "Don’t Stop Believin'," despite the fact that Steve Perry was 14 in 1963.

  • Bud Light Port Paradise Cruise, Part 2

Much like the classic '70s TV series The Love Boat, we set course for adventure and found something exciting and new. And then we found a bunch of other stuff. So we made this video to give you a little taste of what we did. This should whet your palate now, but don't worry, there are more videos coming soon.

  • Radio On The TV: Week Of November 2, 2009

Last week, Weezer stopped by Letterman on Thursday AND Friday to perform two from their new Raditude. Changes ahoy: Rivers has dropped the guitar in favor of being a hands free frontman, drummer Patrick Wilson is now second guitarist Patrick Wilson, and superstar session drummer Josh Freese is pitching in on traps. And those are some kickin', near emo-dixieland horns courtesy of the CBS Orchestra. Isn't the world a better place when Weezer is on ('on' meaning vibes, good songs, etc)? And yes, on the eve of Halloween (isn't Halloween itself an eve?) they dressed up. In their Weezer snuggies.

This week, it's all about Conan: tonight he's got the suddenly huge Tegan & Sara, tomorrow he's got the suddenly returned Creed, and Friday he's got the not-suddenly awesome Pixies, who are celebrating the twentieth anniversary of their Doolittle album.

  • Louise Linton

Make sure to watch Louise Linton star in Cold Case, this Sunday at 10/9c on CBS. If you can't wait to see her, click here for the teaser to Sunday's episode.

    A Pretty Pilot:

“I play Louise Patterson, a female fighter pilot from WWII, and the antagonist, which was really good fun. My character goes up to try and break the sound barrier, which I think is pretty cool. It was just great working on such an acclaimed show, and the regulars on the show are among the nicest, most-humble people I’ve ever met in Hollywood. It was just a very pleasant experience.”

    Funny Gal:

“Filming The Wiffler was such a comedy and mockumentary, and just so unrealistic, that it was easy to identify with. Seeing all these big tough actors stand on a field and play wiffle ball was really quite funny.”

    Chick's Got Style:

“I don’t even know where I get my style from. I suppose just from all the traveling I’ve done. I’m a big fan of modern art, so I appreciate it the aesthetic beauty of simplicity. Maybe I draw my appreciation from art.”

Come back to Maxim.com to see all of Louise's photo gallery on Monday, and in the meantime, check out other smokin' hot crime solvers here!

  • Joanna Krupa's Dancing with the Stars Blog, Vol. 5

    Hi guys!

I am so excited about this week! Derek and I did the waltz and got first place. I was very surprised, but it was a great feeling. It was so wonderful to get positive feedback from Bruno when he told me I danced like a butterfly. Now I want to work even harder for next week.
    Joanna Krupa dancing
I had a blast dancing in the mambo competition! Derek and I let our choreography go halfway through and just did our own thing. It’s so much less nerve-racking when everyone’s dancing at the same time. When Maya was tapped out of the dance-off the crowd cheered for us, which is so encouraging because she has a much bigger fan base. Winning the mambo and having the support of the crowd was one of the best moments of the show so far!

So, yes, Melissa lost this week – I felt so bad. I really thought she would stay another week. Then because of the double elimination Louis and Chelsie lost, too. I was so nervous for them during the last dance.

    Joanna Krupa mambo

Right after the elimination we went directly into group rehearsal. Next week we’re divided into teams – my group is doing a tango that is three minutes long. That’s one of the longest routines we’ve done! The tango will be tough because all the couples need to be in sync. Derek and I are also doing a rumba, which is all about sexy, slow moves and keeping your legs straight. It’s hard to learn. Poor Derek is so tired from trying to teach me the choreography that he’s been getting a little cranky. But I understand—he’s under a lot of pressure. It just takes me longer to memorize the steps because I’m not a professional like Donny or Maya. Also exciting: I get to design Derek’s costume for next week! What do you think I’ll come up with?

Everyone is definitely starting to feel the pressure as more celebs are getting eliminated. It seems like Maya is my top competitor, so I’m trying hard and focusing on one dance at a time. My nerves are still getting the better of me. If I could just get them under control I’d do much better.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing the outcome of the group tango. Wish me luck! And don’t forget to vote for your favorite stars!

  • Bud Light Port Paradise Cruise Diary, Part 1

As we told you a couple weeks ago, we were the lucky recipients of two tickets to the Bud Light Port Paradise cruise to the Bahamas. For reasons unknown to some, Justin Halpern was unable to attend, so with the slight twist of an arm and the proper greasing of palms, Michael Capes was brought in as a replacement. (Totally non-coincidental sidenote: Justin Halpern was in an "accident" during a Bon Voyage party put together by Michael Capes.) All allegations aside, the trip was, in a word: awesome. In two words: Really awesome.

So how did the trip go you ask? Well, to make it easier, we put together a list of everything we enjoyed on the cruise. Here they are in no particular order:

Girls in bikinis, free Bud Light, girls in bikinis holding Bud Lights, free food, water slides, watching girls on water slides while holding Bud Lights, watching girls holding Bud Lights while we were cheersing Bud Lights while watching water slides, amazing sales in the ship's stores (OK, skip that one), pool parties...and oh yeah, hanging out with Maxim and Playboy model Rachelle Leah, getting kneed in the chest by UFC champ Rashad Evans (seriously, it happened), seeing an exclusive Dave Matthews concert on a beautiful Bahamanian island and hearing Andy Samberg's "I'm On A Boat" more times than you can imagine.

Things we didn't enjoy on the Port Paradise cruise, in no particular order:

    1. Other dudes. (Example below)

We'll be posting videos of our trip over the next week, so check back to get jealous of the awesome time we had. And if you run into Justin, just tell him it was "OK" so he won't feel so bad. Or not.

  • Exclusive: "Caprica" Star Alessandra Torresani

In the upcoming series Caprica, a prequel to Battlestar Galactica, we'll get our first look at the birth of the Cylon menace. Unlike most menaces, however, the Cylons at least have the decency to frequently appear in the guise of incredibly hot women. So it's fitting that Alessandra Torresani just happens to be the Patient Zero of comely robotic death machines.

Fresh from Big Apple Comic Con, Alessandra stopped by to talk all things sci-fi. Including the fanboy in his natural habitat.

Caprica premieres in January on SyFy. Mark your calendars.
